Poetry & Journeys, live, Tuesday 19 May 2026, 130pm-3pm at The Lamb

Poetry & Journeys at The Lamb

Whether written on the spot or back home later, a poet’s journey is tailor-made for the page and our reading. These poems are not only transporting. They ginger up our own desire to be elsewhere, to be alone with the light and dark of a strange and compelling newness. Home may be longed for or forgotten. The utter uniqueness of the surroundings may inspire thoughts which give us a written virtual presence in that place and illuminate every experience we have had of being away anywhere and feeling re-made by it.

Poems from Auden, Barrett Browning, Basho, Bishop, Coleridge, Darwish, Lalic, Mandelstam, Neruda, Pushkin, Rich and Tsvetaeva

These sessions are always focussed and informal. Everyone can feel free to express their thoughts and feelings about the poems as they want to. A lot of ground gets covered, poems and readers come alive, and friends are quickly made of the poets and each other

"Gosh, The Lamb is so nice".
Sue Gee (London)
after Poetry & Hope at The Lamb
""Absorbed in the wonderful selection of poems you always manage to put together. And the people who come are all prepared to be rapt".
and
"Such a nice group today, and I liked sitting round the table"
Mary Gurr
after Poetry & Hope, and Poetry & Autobiography at The Lamb
""Yesterday’s session was balm for the soul in these tempestuous times, especially ‘Birches’. I really value your unlocking of the ‘bones’ of the poems as it were, revealing the poet’s craft & deepening our understanding. It does feel a privilege.
Caroline Ward (Norway)
after Poetry and Autobiography online
