Reflections in an Age of Anxiety: An Evening to Calm the Soul

A CONCERT OF MUSIC AND THE SPOKEN WORD

Robin Rubenstein (piano) and Graham Fawcett (spoken voice)

There is something to be said for rising to the occasion, and the occasion is this concert. Come and be part of a very well-planned and concerted effort to raise the stakes against the prevailing atmosphere in the world. Experience just how good poetry and music can be at dealing with our dread, how uplifting and restorative, filling our arms and ears and hearts.

COMPOSERS: Antheil, Bartók, Beethoven, Byrd, Chopin, Prokofiev, Schubert, Shostakovich

POETS: Akhmatova, Apollinaire, Arnold, Auden, Dante, Donne, Ferlinghetti, MacNeice, Rich

And if you are thinking of making a weekend of it, the coastal walks are magnificent and there is plenty of accommodation online. Closest mainline rail station is Sheringham (17 miles away) and then the Coasthopper bus service to Wells. Another option is King’s Lynn (approx. 30 miles), which offers bus connections to Wells.

‘There are few places in England where you can get so much wildness and desolation of sea and sandhills, wood, green marsh and grey saltings as at Wells in Norfolk.’ (W H Hudson)
